Question 1

How many bricks can a bricklayer lay in a day?

Accepted Answer

In good weather with no scaffolding delays, a skilled bricklayer can comfortably lay around 500 bricks a day.

Question 2

Is it cheaper to use concrete blocks instead of bricks?

Accepted Answer

Yes, concrete blocks cover a much larger surface area quickly and are incredibly cost effective, making them the standard choice for the inner leaf of a cavity wall.

Question 3

Should I supply the bricks myself?

Accepted Answer

You can, but established bricklayers often get significant trade discounts at the builders merchants. It is usually cheaper to let your tradesman supply the materials.

Question 4

How much do bricklayers charge per 1000 bricks?

Accepted Answer

On larger jobs where we can get a good rhythm going, we usually price the labour per thousand. You are looking at a labour charge of roughly £500 to £800 per 1000 bricks. If the site access is brilliant and the materials are stacked right next to where we are working, that price will sit at the lower end.

Question 5

How much does a bricklayer earn per brick UK?

Accepted Answer

When you break down that thousand brick rate, a bricklayer is earning between 50p and 80p for every single brick they lay. It sounds simple when you put it like that, but remember that rate has to cover their years of experience, their tools, and the massive physical toll of the job.

Question 6

Brickwork price per m2 UK?

Accepted Answer

This depends entirely on what type of wall we are building for you. If you want a basic single skin wall, the total cost is usually between £100 and £200 per square metre. If we are building a thicker double skin wall for a house extension, the total cost jumps to between £150 and £300 per square metre. If you are looking at just the labour side of things, bricklaying labour alone averages £150 to £300 per square metre depending on how complex the design is.

Question 7

How much per brick to lay UK?

Accepted Answer

As I touched on above, the going rate purely for the labour to lay a single brick in the UK sits right between 50 pence and 80 pence. However, if you are asking me to build intricate arches or use old reclaimed bricks that are covered in old mortar, that price per brick is going to increase because the work slows right down.
